Causes Of Migraine Headaches
DOCTOR'S ORDERS: Many causes, many types of headaches
There are many causes of headaches. Potential triggers include lack of sleep, missed meals, dehydration, stress, using a computer or watching television for an extended period of time, very loud music, smoking, strong odors, too much caffeine and certain foods. While headaches may vary in severity and frequency, symptoms normally can be treated and managed. Tension-type headaches are the most common kind of headaches. These headaches cause pressure or tightness around both sides of the head or neck. Pain is usually mild to moderate and it does not worsen with activity. A tension headache may last from 30 minutes to an entire week. They can be treated with over-the-counter aspirin, ibuprofen or acetaminophen. Cluster headaches are severe, intense headaches that tend to happen repeatedly for weeks or months at a time, disappear for months or years, and then recur. They begin quickly without any warning and peak in a few minutes. Cluster headaches may occur numerous times a day and last from 15 minutes to three hours. The pain is always on one side of the head and begins around the eye or temple area. Preventive medications are available to treat cluster headaches as well as injectable medications for rapid relief during an attack. Inhaling 100 percent oxygen through a mask and pacing or rocking also may help relieve pain. Headaches are usually nothing to worry about. However, you should seek emergency care if you have the sudden onset of a severe headache, a headache starts after a head injury, the headache worsens even with rest and pain medication, or if it is accompanied by a fever, stiff neck, rash, confusion, seizure, double vision, weakness, numbness or problems talking.Causes Of Migraine Headaches - News

The Numerous Causes of Migraine Headaches
Chances are excellent that you have had at least one headache in your lifetime. If it comes to painfulness, the common, ordinary headache does not even begin to compare to migraine headaches. Actually, I used to get migraines when I was really young but they stopped. I do not have them, but I can say they are enormously painful experiences. There is certainly much to be discovered about migraines because they aren’t understood by researchers. There are many reasons for this not the very least of which is people can experience and feel pain in different ways. But that’s only one small aspect of a large and complex picture.
Migraine headaches are a general area in which a tremendous amount of data has been constructed. For one thing, migraines are sometimes termed, vascular headaches, which is the term for the vascular system of blood veins and arteries. People have been known to have a migraine when subjected to extreme temperatures in either direction. Next there are men and women who can get this type of headache if they encounter excessive sleep loss or too much hunger. So all of this clearly shows that environmental influences perform a role at least with some sufferers. We mentioned several areas, previously, but there are others such as chronic stress.
Relating to the overwhelming pain, migraines are unique because the pain appears to take more time to build up. However, that is just another clue concerning migraines, but each and every piece of the puzzle helps. It appears that the present-day situation is that medical doctors have a lot of data from which they can try to work with. Over fifty percent of people who get migraines seem to have family members who also have this condition which implies a possible genetic influence. But since not every person is in that category, then that compels doctors to examine ourside influences.
Shifts in the amounts of hormones can cause these headaches in certain women. The normal menstrual cycle can frequently cause a migraine either preceeding or following the cycle. It is recognized that estrogen decreases quite a bit during those time frames. Pregnancy and then the menopausal years are also times of wild variations in hormones. As you may be thinking, there are some who have higher occurence of migraines at those times. There is an recognized practice called hormone replacement therapy which can generate more intense migraines which is hard to imagine. But the thing that causes some difficulty is that these observations are not universal; they do not take place for all women who experience migraines.
