Florida-Vanderbilt game suspended by weather

Omaha, NE (Sports Network) - Florida was leading Vanderbilt, 3-1, in the bottom of the sixth inning Monday night when the game was stopped because of a line of approaching bad weather that spawned a tornado watch in the area.

After a delay of nearly 2 1/2 hours, the game was finally suspended for the evening at 10:30 p.m. local time and scheduled to re-start Tuesday morning.

Both teams are 1-0 so far and seeking control of their bracket in the College World Series. The loser will play North Carolina, which eliminated Texas earlier Monday.

Florida took a 3-0 lead in the fourth inning on Preston Tucker's three-run homer to right field off Vanderbilt starter Grayson Garvin, who hadn't given up a hit through the first three frames.

Gators starter Karsten Whitson worked 4 2/3 innings. He was pulled after giving up an RBI single to Anthony Gomez in the fifth that drew Vandy within 3-1.

Vanderbilt was batting with two outs in the sixth when the game was stopped and the tarp rolled onto the field before the rain began to fall in earnest.

Florida beat Texas 8-4 and Vanderbilt topped North Carolina 7-3 in their Saturday openers.

North Carolina got a dazzling four-hit shutout from Kent Emanuel on Monday and eliminated Texas from the CWS with a 3-0 victory.

Emanuel fanned five and walked one batter in his second complete game of the season.

Jacob Stallings ripped a two-run single and Ben Bunting belted an RBI double among his four hits for North Carolina. Levi Michael and Colin Moran added a hit apiece in the win.

Jonathan Walsh smacked two of Texas' four hits, while starter Cole Green took the loss after allowing two runs in two-plus innings. He gave up five hits, walked one and struck out one.

As Berger and Jacob Felts had the other two hits for the Longhorns.

North Carolina took the lead for good in the third when leadoff single by Chaz Frank Bunting and put runners on the corners. Green was fired at this point and Hoby Milner came near the Texas out of the jam.

Milner struck the first two batters he faced, but Stallings stepped up and clubbed a 0-2 ground in center field to plate both runners.

North Carolina tacked on another run in the ninth.

OPPD Separates Fact From Fiction - Action 3 News - Omaha, Nebraska ...

Omaha, NE - The Omaha Public Power District is clearing up rumors about the Fort Calhoun Nuclear Plant that have surfaced on the Internet.  At a press conference Friday, officials reviewed several claims made by writers that they say are not true. 

"For one, are not in a Level Four emergency," stated the Chief Nuclear Office David Bannister.

Bannister also struck down the theory of a no-fly-zone at the plant because of radiation concerns.  He asserted the real issue is about airplane pilots getting too close to the scene as they catch a glimpse of rising flood waters.

"I can't afford, at a time when I've got a natural disaster going on, to have an aircraft crash on site that could potentially impact one of my power sources."

OPPD also spent the morning dispelling the notion that fuel rods are in danger of a meltdown in the aftermath of an electrical fire earlier this month.

"Our operating crews took immediate actions and got the fire brigade out to the scene to deal with the problem."
