Virginia Accident Takes Life of State Trooper

A Virginia State Trooper responding to a call Friday night in King George County, Virginia, collided with a Hyundai Elantra where his car ran off the road and struck a light pole resulting in his death.  He was traveling westbound on Route 3/Kings Highway when he entered the intersection of Route 3 and Madison Drive and collided with the eastbound vehicle. The driver and a passenger in the Hyundai were taken to Mary Washington Hospital in Fredericksburg with minor injuries.  The trooper was also an Iraq war veteran. The police are continuing their investigation.

Ohio Accident Claims Two Lives

Two women died and three men were injured when their car flipped on I-76 near Akron, Ohio. The Honda Accord carrying five occupants hit a concrete barrier, went airborne, flipped over and landed in an area of dense brush.  The driver and two other passengers were hospitalized with serious injuries, with one of them suffering from a spinal cord injury.  The interstate was closed for over five hours while the scene was cleared.  Police believe that alcohol and speed were both factors in the accident and said that charges are pending.

Motorcyclist Dies in CA Highway Accident

A motorcyclist was traveling eastbound on state Route 78 in Borrego Springs, CA on Monday when he swerved into the westbound lanes while rounding a curve.  He struck the driver’s door of a westbound vehicle, lost control of the motorcycle and died at the scene from major head injuries.  The driver of the car was not injured.

Three Flown to Hospital after Multi-Vehicle Accident

An early Saturday morning multi-vehicle accident left four people seriously injured and shut down a portion of southbound I-81 in Pulaski County, Virginia for close to two hours. A southbound driver near mile-marker 95 attempted to pass a pickup truck that was towing another pickup, when the passing vehicle struck the towed truck from behind.  The pickup truck overturned landing on a guardrail, and the other vehicle ran off the road striking an embankment.  Three of the injured were airlifted to Carilion Roanoke Memorial Hospital. Police say the accident is still under investigation, and charges are pending.
